Armand is listed everywhere as being Dutch, even on a website for Dutch players abroad, and we were sure this meant he came from the Netherlands. Then while looking for information about his time at Dundee United we uncovered the following truth - Armand was born on 25th June 1969 in Tongeren, Belgium. So there we have the connection - a Dutch player born in Belgium who played in Scotland.
After playing for RKSC Rapidly, from 1975, Armand moved to MVV62, in 1981, where he stayed until joining MVV Maastricht in 1986. After 10 years with MVV, scoring 5 goals, Armand came to Scotland and Dundee United. This brings another connection with Belgium as Armand became the first player to join Dundee United on a "Bosman" when he was signed by manager Billy Kirkwood. Remember that Jean Marc Bosman was an unused substitute with Standard Liege in a European Cup tie at Tannadice in 1983. In the first two games played by Armand he appears as a trialist. The games are pre-season friendlies against Brechin, away 1-0 win, and Leicester City, home 2-1 win. Armand then went on to start in the first eight games of the season, wearing number 6 in the first and then number 5 for the next seven. In the next match, at home to Aberdeen, Armand was a substitute wearing number 14 and coming on in the last minute for Andy McLaren, who had came on as a substitute at half-time for Robbie Winters! This was to be the last time Armand appeared in the 1st team, he is not even named as an unused substitute!
